Embark Studios, the developer of ARC Raiders, recently updated the game with a new map, Shrouded Sky. While bringing surprises, the significantly increased danger level keeps players constantly on their toes.
However, widespread player feedback focuses on game balance adjustments, arguing that the skewed distribution of resources significantly impacts the gameplay experience. This concern extends beyond everyday weapons; loot obtained from buff key rooms is a major point of contention.
The controversial aspects of this update, the numerous player feedback, and the update itself will be detailed below.
Reaction
The hurricane experience brought by Shrouded Sky significantly increases visibility and the presence of new ARC enemies like Comet and Firefly, making it more difficult to reach the topside. Players must navigate the environmental obstacles while remaining vigilant against new ambushes.
The update also added a new Raider Deck and made numerous balance improvements. These changes significantly increased the crafting cost of items like Wolfpack and Deadline, causing considerable dissatisfaction among players who felt the developers' actions urgently needed adjustment to protect their rights.
As a survival shooter, the new event experience is primarily about increasing the difficulty of gameplay, and players' primary concern - their own rewards - is not only not reflected in the update, but is actually made harder to obtain.
Request 1
Many players have reported that scavenging the map has become more difficult, and keys, which used to randomly drop while looting, have lost their appeal after repeatedly opening locked rooms with similar loot drops.
Although the use of keys is limited to large maps and otherwise has no apparent use, the randomly dropped items are still quite ordinary, failing to reflect the value of keys.
Some players initially thought it was due to luck, but after discussing with friends, they realized it was a game design choice. Even intentionally choosing maps with weather effects resulted in meager loot. Even with a few pink-quality items, there are still no low-rarity loot items.
Carrying keys to specific locations increases risk, yet only yields loot similar to that of ordinary locations. The difficulty of obtaining these ARC Raiders Items makes players question the necessity of the risk. Therefore, players collectively request a buff to Key Rooms feature.
Request 2
The frequency of looting can lead to a substantial number of ARC Raiders keys, so some players have suggested reducing the key drop rate. Improving the drop rate of key rooms is also essential. This has received much support, indicating that improving the quality of resources remains a core concern for players.
Regarding key room loot, some players suggest adding blueprints to the rewards to increase the variety and appeal of loot. The quality of blueprints should not be dominated by a high proportion of mediocre items.
Additionally, the loot quality for other high-risk operations such as Baron Husks and Supply Drops should also be improved. Popular players pointed out that this was an issue that developer Embark could easily and quickly fix, but it hasn't been implemented in the game.
Request 3
Regarding increasing the chances of obtaining rich loot, some players suggested keychains. Using keychains would allow for stacking storage without taking up too much inventory space, enabling the unlocking of more rooms.
In addition, differentiating key colors would correspond to the richness of loot in rooms, meeting player expectations and better showcasing the tiers of loot, rather than repeatedly yielding disappointing results from random openings.
For rooms already opened, some players suggested that other players wouldn't need to reuse keys, increasing key usage. This is one of the solutions players have proposed for addressing the issue of mostly unreliable items in Key Rooms.
Response
In Embark's feedback, players learned that balance adjustments are included in ARC Raiders' future plans. IL Toro Shotgun, which previously drew heavy criticism from players due to its overpowered nature in close-quarters PvP combat, is expected to be nerfed in a future update.
As for items like Wolfpack and Deadline, which sparked player discontent by being weakened, the studio stated that increasing their production costs is a way to align their overall value with that of other items.
Furthermore, the roadmap for four major updates to ARC Raiders in the first half of 2026 directly names the events. The following have already been released: Headwinds in January and Shrouded Sky in February.
Players can look forward to Flashpoint, which launches this month, and Riven Tides, which will be released in April. Flashpoint will again include updates to ARC enemies, maps, and Scrappy.
Regarding content updates, new ARC enemies and highly challenging maps await players to explore. Notably, this new ARC enemy is a large-scale entity, similar to Queen and Matriarch, requiring not only skillful maneuvering but also strategic thinking.
With the release of the newly launched Shrouded Sky, developer Embark Studios is expected to continue optimizing the player experience, especially in terms of balance. The upcoming updates are also highly anticipated, so players can look forward to them.
