Diablo 4 Season 14, Season of Death Awakening, has become one of the most controversial Seasons since its release, with criticism becoming the dominant sentiment.
So why are players so averse to Season 14? The biggest reason lies in the game's significant overhaul of Mythic Uniques - the developers attempted to limit the speed at which players could acquire endgame gear by modifying Mythic Unique mechanism, thereby extending the season's lifespan.
However, the opposite occurred; this change sparked unprecedented and intense debate among players. I will elaborate on this below.

Criticisms
The criticisms primarily revolve around Mythic Unique 3.0, but some players also expressed dissatisfaction with other game content.
Low Mythic Unique Drop Rate
Diablo 4 Season 14 reworked Mythic Unique system, making Mythic Unique no longer a separate gear category, but rather a quality of Unique gear. The former Mythic Unique was redefined as Iconic Mythic. The new mechanism, dubbed Mythic Unique 3.0 by players,
Theoretically, this significantly expanded the endgame gear pool, giving more equipment late-game value; however, in practice, it directly led to a substantial increase in the difficulty of obtaining Mythic Uniques.
This is because the original Mythic Unique gear pool was very limited, and now, a large number of Unique items were added to it, directly diluting the probability of obtaining truly useful Mythic Uniques.
Furthermore, the overall drop rate of Mythic Uniques was significantly lowered by the developers.
Although, following player protests, the developers continuously increased the drop rate of Mythic Uniques in subsequent updates, the problem was not effectively resolved.
Highly Random in Mythic Uniques Crafting
Before Diablo 4 Season 14, players could use two Resplendent Sparks through Jeweler to precisely craft Mythic Uniques they needed.
However, in Season 14, players can only choose an equipment slot, and then randomly draw one Mythic Unique item for that slot from a huge prize pool.
Even more detrimental is the highly randomized upgrade recipe - Upgrade to Mythic, newly added to Horadric Cube to upgrade a Unique item to a Mythic Unique.
This randomness greatly increases the difficulty of crafting Mythic Uniques, often requiring players to consume thousands of crafting materials to obtain a single desired piece of equipment.
Strict Crafted Restriction
Diablo 4 Season 14 introduced a new Crafted tag. Any Mythic Unique crafted through Horadric Cube or other methods will be marked as Crafted, and a player can only equip one Mythic Unique item with this tag at a time.
This means that once a player crafts and equips their most needed Mythic Unique item, the entire crafting system becomes completely meaningless for them, and the remaining crafting materials are worthless except for gathering dust in their inventory.
Other Criticisms
While the vast majority of player criticism focused on Mythic Unique 3.0, some players expressed dissatisfaction with other aspects.
Firstly, there's the issue of season mechanics. Season 14's main mechanic is Realmwalker, which isn't actually a completely new mechanic; it was already present in Season 6.
New seasons should add new gameplay and storylines, but the developers delivered a mechanic that players were already tired of, which is disappointing.
Secondly, there's issue of War Plans experience. Some players believe that War Plans progress isn't transferable between different characters on the same account. If a player wants to try a second class, they have to start from scratch and complete the entire War Plans process, experiencing a lot of repetitive content.
Supporting Views
However, amidst the overwhelming negative reviews, some players still expressed support for Diablo 4 Season 14.
A significant portion of the supporters are hardcore gamers who believe the current community is rife with a culture of rushing through content - many players want to have a fully maxed-out Mythic Unique set within the first week or two of a new season, then leave their characters untouched until the next season.
In their view, Mythic Unique 3.0's design aims to correct this unhealthy trend. They believe Iconic Mythic should be the ultimate goal of the entire season and should be quite challenging.
Furthermore, some players have shared builds that allow them to complete Torment 12 or Pit 130 and above without Iconic Mythic, such as Flicker Wolf Druid Build and Zeal Paladin Build.
These players believe that even without a full Mythic set, the old Diablo 4 Uniques are sufficient to complete most of the game's high-difficulty content, so Mythic Unique 3.0 won't have a significant impact on players.
My Viewpoint
While critics and supporters disagree, their shared goal is the same - to make Diablo 4 better and better.
As supporters argue, if Mythic Uniques were as easy to obtain as they used to be, many players would get bored within the first two weeks of Season 1.
However, making Mythic Uniques too difficult to obtain would severely dampen player enthusiasm, leaving only hardcore players engaged.
Therefore, developers should find a balance and improve game. For example, they could continue to increase the overall drop rate of Mythic Uniques; or, while maintaining the current drop rate, enhance all Mythic Uniques.
Another example is reducing the randomness of crafting Mythic Uniques, allowing players to increase their crafting success rate through certain mechanisms.
Regarding War Plans, the developers could make War Plans progress account-wide, but not Paragon Level progress.
This would allow players' alt characters to directly enjoy the powerful buffs and smooth experience of War Plans, while also experiencing the satisfaction of leveling up their characters as they progress through Paragon Levels.
In conclusion, we hope that the developers will value players' opinions and find the most beneficial balance among different opinions to bring a better Diablo 4 to players.
