Changes and Constants in Riding Skill

Adjustments and Updates

As is the case in every version of the game, you must learn Riding skill before you can mount up. In WoW Forever, however, the specific requirements differ from other versions.

In WoW Classic, learning Riding skill requires a gold investment. Furthermore, the skill system there is more granular—you often have to purchase specific riding skills tailored to individual mount types.

In the preview materials for WoW Forever, you'll notice a significant shift: you now only need to spend WoW Forever gold to unlock two tiers of Riding skills, rather than purchasing separate skills for a wide variety of individual mount types.

Specifically, you simply need to unlock Apprentice Riding and Journeyman Riding. Upon reaching level 40, you can unlock Apprentice Riding, which allows you to use any mount that provides a 60% movement speed increase. Journeyman Riding, meanwhile, grants access to mounts that offer a 100% movement speed increase. Note that this classification system applies to mounts native to your own race.

So, you might ask: How do I ride mounts belonging to other races? Let's take a look at how the developers have integrated elements from previous versions into WoW Forever.

Inspiration and Integration

As mentioned earlier, in WoW Classic, each type of mount requires its own specific Riding skill—a system that can become quite costly. By introducing a tiered system for riding skills, the game resolves issues regarding the use of mounts specific to certain races. As for riding mounts belonging to other races, the game employs a more ingenious approach.

It is not as complicated as one might imagine; the solution involves linking mount system to reputation system. Once you reach Exalted status with a specific race, you unlock access to all mounts available to that race. This adjustment preserves the necessity of categorizing mounts while streamlining what was previously an overly cumbersome and detailed process.

In WoW Classicplus, riding skill system has not been overhauled or replaced with an entirely different mechanic; rather, the existing, complex system has been simplified. By using the established mount system as a framework and cleverly leveraging both riding skills and reputation levels to categorize mounts, the developers have significantly enhanced the player experience.

Mount Mechanics and Adjustments

Much like in previous versions, once you obtain a mount in WoW Classic+, it is added to your collection. Furthermore, mounts are account-wide, meaning you do not need to re-acquire them for each individual character.

A key difference is the removal of restrictions based on race or size, which previously prevented players from riding or taming certain mounts. In this version, those limitations have been lifted. As long as you possess the required riding skill and have attained the necessary reputation level with a given race, you are free to ride their mounts—there are no further conditions to hold you back. This is undoubtedly a positive change for all players, further increasing the game's overall freedom.

Mounts to Look Forward To

Naturally, one of the things players are most curious about is which new mounts will appear in WoW Classic+, and which familiar favorites might make a return. Below are some of the most popular mounts from the test servers. All of them will be available to players in the live game; we hope this information proves useful to you.

 Galestrider

As a newly added race, Skyborne come with their own racial mount: Galestrider. Resembling a crane, this creature uses its long hind legs to sprint. While its movement speed is decent, it serves as an excellent starter mount—a must-have for any Skyborne player.

Forsaken Charger

Designed specifically for Undead Paladins, this new mount gives class its very own signature warhorse. Clad in heavy, metallic-sheen armor and featuring a classic black-and-gold color scheme, Forsaken Charger is an unmissable addition for any Undead Paladin.

My advice? Regardless of your race, go get one! These warhorses are sure to make your gameplay experience even more engaging.

Riding Turtle

Veteran players will surely recognize this mount; it was originally introduced as an event reward, only to vanish in later iterations of the game. Now, in WoW Classic+, this slow-moving sea turtle makes its return. If you're a fan of nostalgia, consider adding it to your collection—it's a great collector's item, after all!

These are just a few of the popular mounts featured on the test server, all of which will be available when the game officially launches. There is plenty more yet to be revealed, waiting for you to discover once the servers go live—I'm confident you'll find even cooler mounts to add to your stable.

That concludes our overview of mount system in WoW Forever. Overall, the system builds upon the foundations of previous versions while establishing its own unique identity—it's neither a carbon copy nor a complete overhaul. The design prioritizes player experience, streamlining various mechanics to make things more intuitive. Furthermore, a host of exciting new mounts are set to make their debut, sure to become instant favorites among the player base.
