Since Baldur’s Gate 3 has received so much praise, Larian Studios has been adding new content to the game with great energy and enthusiasm, which is really touching. Baldur’s Gate 3 Update 8 was released on April 15, after months of player testing on all platforms.
Larian Studios head Swen Vincke recently confirmed that Baldur’s Gate 3’s Update 8 patch notes are nearly 50 pages long. This is undoubtedly exciting news for players who are looking forward to Larian’s final major patch for Baldur’s Gate 3.
Recently, Swen Vincke posted on X platform that he “just read the 48-page patch notes”, giving players a general understanding of the scale of this update. This update introduced a photo mode, 12 new subclasses, and cross-platform online functionality, so it’s no wonder the patch notes are so long.
The 12 new classes are:
- College of Glamour (Bard)
- Path of Giants (Barbarian)
- Death Domain (Cleric)
- Circle of Stars (Druid)
- Oath of the Crown (Paladin)
- Arcane Archer (Fighter)
- Drunken Master (Monk)
- Swarmkeeper (Ranger)
- Swashbuckler (Rogue)
- Shadow Magic (Sorcerer)
- Hexblade (Warlock)
- Bladesinging (Wizard)
This update is the last major update that Larian Studios released for Baldur’s Gate 3, and it is the final step for the game before the development team fully devotes themselves to new projects. While Larian may continue to fix possible serious bugs after this final update, other than that, the game will probably be handed over entirely to the community after April 15th. Larian has yet to reveal the studio’s future plans.
For the studio Wizards of the Coast has chosen to develop Baldur’s Gate 4, this will be a very tall order. While any potential sequel should be judged on its own merits, comparisons to Larian’s previous works are inevitable. Although some of Baldur’s Gate 3 cast have expressed a willingness to return without Larian, any studio that wants to reach the depth displayed by that game will face an enormous challenge. Of course, this may still be many years away, so don’t worry too much at the moment.
